Wood Grades to Consider When Choosing Your New Northern Virginia Fence

There’s no question that wood is a beautiful and versatile material for your new Leesburg, Occoquan, or Oakton home. Wood fencing comes in a wide range of qualities, colors, sizes, types, and grades. Grades are based on the structural integrity, size, number of clear cuttings, and appearance of the wood and should be considered when you’re trying to achieve a certain look or effect with your fence.

Wood grades include clear wood grade, which has a small number of natural characteristics, making this grade high quality and expensive. Premium and select wood grades feature some knotting on either one or both sides — or faces — of the fence, while standard grade has more appearance defects than select or premium grade on one face and then less characteristics on the other face. Finally, quality grade is the most economical option, as this grade features knots that may become knotholes. Quality grade may be used when trying to achieve a rustic look with your fencing.

Established in 1981, Hal Co Fence has installed thousands of quality decks, fences, and screened porches in Northern Virginia, in such communities as Purcellville, Springfield, and Bristow.
